Movie Review #3 ~ Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol

So today, I was  to finally watch the much anticipated Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol! My dad and I watched it together, and since we are both fans of action movies, the movie was excellent. I loved all of the Mission Impossible movies, so I was obviously expecting to love this one too.
So in the fourth movie, Ethan Hunt, with his new team, is sent to track down a dangerous terrorist named Hendricks who has gained access to the russian nuclear launch codes and is planning to blow up the United States. The team follows him to the Kremlin in Russia, and after a strenuous struggle to stop him at the Kremlin, it ends in a disaster. The Kremlin's damage is almost irrevocable. Because the IMF was involved with this, the president of the United States is forced to reject the IMF, leaving all the members of IMF without any backup or special weapons whatsoever. However, Ethan being Ethan, is unaffected by this major change. His team goes rogue and continues to track down Hendricks, determined to stop the bombing he's planning and prove IMF's innocency.
I thought this movie was thrilling in an absolutely awesome way. There are so many spectacular action sequences throughout the whole movie, which kept me on my toes the entire time. I really think this movie is worth watching, especially if you enjoyed any of the other Mission Impossible movies!

Noisy Neighbors

So as you may know from my previous post, the weather has been really nice and warm here in L.A. And for us, this leads to a lot of noise.Let me explain further. You see, we live right by the pool in our apartment complex. Ground level. Right next to the pool. Up until today, we thought that living right by the pool was wonderful, because of the fantastic view of the trees and all of that. And it is, except for that one little problem. Noise.
So today, all of a sudden, people start to come out of there homes from nowhere, and suddenly, there's water splashing, kids screaming, people laughing, babies crying; it's just so much for your eardrums to take in. I'm pretty sure it's worse because it echoes in our courtyard.
I was actually really startled when the first family (of probably around 10) came and started making a whole lot of noise for about 4 hours straight. And not only is there a noise problem, there's a privacy problem. We have our balcony door open (because it's so hot) and the kids start looking into our house, which is extremely annoying.
We were so relieved at the peace and quiet when the family finally left, but of course, the next family comes marching in, making the same infernal racket. And then the next family after that. And the family after that. And the family after that. And so on and so forth.
It's really quite a big deal for us because we live in a very sunny place, where the weather to swim is perfect.
I would really love to put up an "Annoying Noises Prohibited" sign right about now...

L.A. Weather

So this entire week has been very hot, and I've actually been very happy with it!
It got up to 90 degrees Farenheit (around 30 degrees celsius) and I was ecstatic to bring out my summer clothes.
30 degrees was about as hot as it ever got throughout the entire year in Vancouver, so it was a really great thing for me to experience this kind of wonderful weather even before summer started!
The weather in Vancouver is quite contrary from the weather in L.A.
I was surprised that not only was it much more sunny and hot, there was definitely a difference in the sun too! The sun in Vancouver is actually not very hot. The best way to describe the sun is pleasantly warm. However, the best way to describe the weather here in L.A. is scorching. I had no idea that there was this big of a difference in simply the sun in two different places on the globe.
In L.A., it is not so much the temperature that is high, it is the sun that burns.
Now I learned to always wear sunscreen in L.A. the hard way. You see, I was at school the other day, and during lunch, my friends and I happened to be out on the field where there was absolutely no shade. It was fairly hot, but I didn't think that it would effect me that much in a very noticable way. But of course, I was 100% wrong. By the time I got home, my cheeks and the bridge of my nose were bright pink, and were really itchy. I had been sunburnt for the first time in my life.
You may think, how can you go 12 (going on 13!) years of your life without being sunburned a single time? There are actually a number of reasons.
1. My mother coated me with sunscreen when I was a little kid
2. My mother always made sure I wore a hat when it was sunny out
3. In Vancouver, you can go the entire summer without a single drop of sunscreen and I guaruntee you won't be sunburnt (maybe a little tan, but definitely not sunburnt)
So you see, I am having somewhat of a hard time adjusting to the weather in L.A., which is almost the exact opposite of the weather in Vancouver.
Hopefully I'll remember to slather on sunscreen every day before I am a victim to another case of pink and peeling skin...

Leave Me a Few Messages!

So if y'all haven't noticed, there's a little green box on the right hand side of my blog. If you have no idea what this little thing is for, I like to think of it as a little visitor's board. As you browse through my blog, you can leave me a couple messages.
You can really write anything you want to; however, no cussing please...
I'd love to hear from all of you!

An Unfortunate Day

So today was not the most pleasant of days, however I will not say that the reason for all this is because it's *cue ominous music* Friday the 13th. I am definitely not a superstitious person, mostly because believing in all of these different beliefs makes me worry a lot more than I need to. Another reason is because these superstitions simply don't make sense.
So anyways, now that I have given my opinion on superstitions, I shall begin telling you of all the unlucky unfortunate events that happened today.
From the morning, the mood was not at all cheerful. There was a dark overcast and it was raining. I do not like waking up to this type of dark weather, just because it somehow tricks my body into thinking that it's still nighttime, making me extremely reluctant to drag myself out of bed.
After getting dressed half-asleep, I started to sneeze and cough as though I had a cold. This is also one of the thinks that I hate the most, feeling really lousy from the minute the day starts. I figured that all this sneezing would clear up as I got through the day, so I just ignored it and went to school anyway.
And of course, when I got to school, I realized that I had forgotten my lunch at home. So I had to run to the office before school started and call my mom to bring my lunch. At this point I knew that this day would not exactly be one of those good days.
By the time I got to my next class, my allergies started acting up. They started getting worse and worse; but the horrible thing is that we were taking a math quiz and I couldn't get myself to focus.
While I was taking the math test, I realized that I had completely forgotten to do my history homework for last night, which added on to my stress.
It was only the second period of the day, however I knew right away by the way I was sneezing and rubbing my eyes that I needed to go home early.
When I got to the office to wait for my mom to pick me up, my lunch was right there waiting for me. I felt so bad since she didn't even need to drop it off anymore, and also because I had just missed her.
So then, my mom had to come and pick me up again, and by the time I got home, I was pooped. I did not want to do anything but lie down and sleep.
But wait. I'm not done. You see, me and my friends were supposed to go see The Hunger Games in theaters right after school today, but since I was sick, I missed that too.
So many bad events in one day...
*sigh* It never rains but it pours, right?

Hummingbirds!

So in our apartment complex, there are tons of hummingbirds. And this is really exciting for me, because there are absolutely NO hummingbirds whatsoever in Vancouver. My family and I always get extremely excited whenever Mr. Hummingbird comes to visit us on our balcony; hummingbirds are just happy little creatures.
But the main point of this post is that my dad found a hummingbird nest in our courtyard. (Oh dad, you and your keen eyes.)
Of course, the whole family raced over and practically climbed the tree to get a peek at these baby hummingbirds.
The least I could say is that my heart exploded. The hummingbirds were miniature, probably half the size of your thumb. There were two of them in there, both squished into the nest the size of your pinky. They were looking so cozy.
Honestly, I think that seeing baby hummingbirds in their nests are really rare, and I think I'm really lucky to have seen something as extraordinary as this.
It's really hard to comprehend how small a hummingbird baby is until you've actually seen it with your own eyes; I have to say, I was pretty him really gets you to see the simple pleasures in life-and once in a while find rare things that is a once in a lifetime thing!

Menchies

So today I tried Menchies Frozen Yogurt for the first time. SO. GOOD.I heard everybody talking about how they wanted Menchies all the time at school, and it came to the point where I couldn't just sit there and hear all these great things about something that I've never tried before.
Believe it or not, in Vancouver, frozen yogurt was first being introduced when I was leaving. So if you ask somebody from Vancouver if they know what Menchies is, they'll look extremely confused. People from Vancouver have probably never tried good frozen yogurt before. That's how unfortunate my situation was before I moved to L.A. and lived a few blocks away from a Menchies place.
But anyways, since today was a furlough day for our school, I thought, why not try Menchies? Now I will always go to Menchies whenever I'm craving something sweet.
There are so many flavors, and what I like about the place is that they let you sample all the flavors before you decide which one so that you don't choose something that you would regret getting. They also give away these cute spoons and stickers. It's a self serve place, which I like. In Pinkberry, they give you two tiny pieces of strawberry when you ask for strawberry toppings. In Menchies, you can load on as many toppings as you want.
*sigh* It simply makes my sweet tooth go crazy.
I CAN'T WAIT TO GO AGAIN!

New Guitar!

I seem to be getting lots of new items nowadays, no?Well, I'm ecstatic, because I've been using a spare guitar that my teacher had, so I've been anticipating my getting a new guitar of my own. And so I finally did.
I was wanting a guitar with a light, almost white color, but that was not what I got.
I got something even better, something that I didn't even know I wanted until the moment I laid eyes on it. It was beautiful. although it wasn't as light of a color of wood as I wanted it, it was still just as pretty. It didn't have a glossy covering but had a satin wood finish, which I thought was very very cool. Although it wasn't bought brand new from a store, it just as well may be. It may have been played 4 or 5 times, which technically makes it "used," but it was just as good as a brand new one. It even smelled new.
I'm enjoying my new computer and my new guitar very much!
Now if only I could get a brand new piano (preferably a grand piano)... heh heh. My life would be complete. ;)

New Computer!

So today, we finally went and got a new laptop. Why do we need one? Because ours just stopped working and kind of died. You see, that computer was just worthless. We spent more time fixing it than actually using it, which was absolutely ridiculous. But when it did work, it froze at least 3 or 4 times every time you used it. SO AGGRAVATING.
Anyways, it was such a relief to get a new computer, and a laptop, not a desktop. We invested around $600 on it. Too much? Maybe... But we're using it happily and it looks like my parents have no thoughts on refunding the computer, so it's all good for now!
We bought an Asus computer, which we heard was one of the top selling brands with the lowest rate of being broken, so we obviously went with this one. So far? Best computer I've ever used. It's given us no problems so far, so I'm really happy with it. :)
So if you're planning on getting a new laptop or a computer, I suggest you get this Asus laptop (or any of the ones from the line) because everybody agrees that it is a very likeable computer.
*sigh* Getting new (and sometimes unnecessary) items are always fun. Especially gadgets.
